On the day of my first appointment, I showed up at the clinic early and went to sign in. The receptionist at the front desk, also the one who helped find my ER documents, looked confused and told me that I had cancelled. I assured her that I had not, nor had I even talked to anyone from MCMC to do so. In the confusion, I heard her asking the other receptionist if she knew anything about this. After three attempts the other receptionist finally answered her with something about a name mix-up. The first, good, receptionist told her that they had cleared that all up two days prior to my scheduled appointment, to which the first receptionist shrugged her shoulders and went back to her computer screen. The first receptionist asked me to wait a moment as she went to the back. Upon return, all I could be offered was an appointment nine days later.

About a week or so later, I walked right into the clinic and pleaded my case before a different receptionist. She confirmed that this was indeed the policy, but then asked if I had seen any doctor recently, even and ER visit could work. I gave her the approximate date and location of my last ER visit (about 4 years previous). She took it upon herself to find the contact information for this hospital and said she would fax in a request for these records that night. I waited two days and called MCMC back to see if they had received my records. They had, and I immediately set up my first appointment.

I am not at all satisfied with the attitude, demeanor nor competence of the administrative receptionist staff, less the wonderful woman that was apparently the only one capable of helping me. I will keep my scheduled appointment, however, it will be my last at MCMC. God help me, I hope the doctors are more proficient in their jobs than their administrative staff.

When I first tried to establish primary care through MCMC, the receptionist told me that I would have to have my medical records submitted. This is the procedure that we use, we DO NOT accept new patients without their prior medical history. I said ok, and tried to explain to her that I had not seen a primary physician in over 15 years, thus I don't have any medical records. She responded quite snidely, "well I don't know what to tell you, we don't accept any new patients without their previous medical history." I told her that I understood that but, I have no medical history. She again replied quite snidely "well I'm sorry but with no medical records, the doctors will not accept you as a new patient." I said ok and hung up the phone.
